Tourism bosses bidding to bring the starting line of the Tour de France to Leeds have flown back to Paris to keep Yorkshire’s campaign to host the 2016 Grand Depart in the spotlight.
Gary Verity and Peter Dodd, of Welcome to Yorkshire, were in the French capital yesterday as details of next year’s race, beginning in Corsica, were announced.
Mr Verity, chief executive, said it had reinforced how exciting it would be for the world’s biggest cycling race to come to the region.
“In 2013 the Tour de France will start from a small island in the South of France and we hope that in 2014 it will start on an island to the north of France,” he said.
“Leeds would be a wonderful host city and Yorkshire would provide a stunning backdrop.”
