Little People Nursery's Leigha Strangeway and Lizzie Whittington, get into character for Hospice Half Hour.

Fun-loving tots at a Bramley nursery have signed up to help fundraise for Hospice Half Hour for the YEP’s Half and Half Appeal.

We are asking people to plan a 30-minute fundraiser to do during National Hospice Week - October 6-12 - in aid of the YEP’s long-running appeal for Leeds’s two hospice.

Little People nursery has this week pledged to take part in fundraising action with a half-hour fancy dress disco.

The youngsters showed their support for the campaign by digging out their fancy dress outfits for little practise dance.

The YEP’s Half and Half Appeal launched in 1982 to raise equal money for St Gemma’s Hospice and Sue Ryder-Wheatfields Hospice and has so reached an impressive £2.8m total.

We’re now launching a fundraising push to try reach £3m and are asking you to get involved in Hospice Half Hour, to spare just 30 minutes to fundraiser during National Hospice Week.

Litte People nursery manager Linzi Page said: “The staff and children at Little People Bramley are excited to take part in the Hospice Half Hour Appeal as numerous families across our setting have had loved ones who require the special care and attention that Wheatfields and st Gemma’s provide.

“This is a worthwhile cause that is close to our hearts and we feel privileged to be able to help.

“The children are always eager to dress up and everyone enjoys a party so we have decided to combine the two and hold a half-hour fancy dress disco within the nursery on the day.

“We will also be holding a bake sale as this always goes down well and raises extra funds.”

Fundraising can be any shape or form and can take place at any time during the week - whether its auctioning off half an hour of your time, or holding a sponsored silence at your school or nursery.

If there are lots of you, how about doing a relay-style fundraiser - such as each of you getting sponsored to sit in a bath of baked beans for half-hour stints, or battling it out on the pitch in half-hour five-a-side clashes.

So follow Little People nursery’s lead and get your thinking caps on for fundraising ideas. You’ve six weeks to plan your event and help make this appeal a real success, raising vital money to help Leeds’ two hospices.

Let us know what you’re planning and we’ll feature it in the YEP. Email joanna.wardill@ypn.co.uk or tweet us @leedsnews with #HospiceHalfHour.
