The man who feeds the most successful racing team on the planet is backing our Let’s Get Cycling campaign.

Nigel Mitchell, the Yorkshireman employed by Team Sky to keep Chris Froome and Sir Bradley Wiggins fuelled, believes cycling is a sport for anyone of any age or any ability.

And you won’t need to be fed the 7,000 to 8,000 calories that Sky’s head nutriontist will be supplying his boys with before a mountain stage of this year’s Tour de France.

For the 47-year-old from Barnsley knows cycling is a sport that can get his home county healthy.

“I’m healthcare professional, I’ve worked as an academic in exercise and health,” said Mitchell.

“So for me cycling is unique compared to other sports because it is a sport that people can do right through their life to a level they’re comfortable at.

“You can cycle right into your 70s and 80s and at your own leisure.

“With a sport like boxing you’d struggle to be boxing until you’re 70, but cycling is one of these sports that really supports the public health message we are trying to put across as well.”
