Top flight football referee to go under the spotlight at guest lecture in city

WORLD Cup final referee Howard Webb is set to give a guest lecture at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Webb will appear at the Lewis Jones Suite at Headingley Carnegie Stadium on Tuesday May 27 as part of the university’s Carnegie Conversation lecture series.

He will recount stories from his life and experiences in football before taking part in a question and answer session compered by ex-Leeds United star John Hendrie.

Webb is a current Premier League referee and has officiated in the World Cup Final, Champions League Final and the FA Cup Final.

The former South Yorkshire police officer has been a FIFA referee since 2005.

Previous speakers in this year’s Carnegie Conversation lecture series have included Yorkshire County Cricket Club Director of Cricket Mark Arthur and first team coach Jason Gillespie.

All lectures are free, but places are limited.
