They held a bun sale and had an information stand with literature about SADS, as well as a craft stall and a raffle with prizes donated by local and national businesses.

They included a Toni & Guy haircut, a meal for two at the Marriot and a signed Leeds United shirt.

Mr Reid told the YEP: "We cannot thank enough the generosity of local and national businesses for supporting the Tom Reid Day and for helping us to raise awareness of SADS, the condition which cruelly took away our son."

Martin Colley, Garforth's senior vice principal, said: "Tom Reid was a very gifted and committed student, highly respected by the staff and students at Garforth Community College, and with such a promising future ahead of him.

"His sudden and unexpected death was a great shock to all those at the college that knew him and consequently, in memory of him and to celebrate his life, the Tom Reid Day was an opportunity for the whole college to work together in various fund raising activities in aid of Cardiac Risk in the Young."
