Three charged with manslaughter over death at sauna

By Bruce Smith Crime Reporter THREE people have been charged with the manslaughter of a mother who died in a fire at the Leeds sauna where she worked.

A 24-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman both from north Leeds were due to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court today accused over the death of Samantha Pithie, 32, at the Girl Talk sauna in Bexley Mount, Harehills,Leeds, in the early hours of September 1.

A 32-year-old woman was also charged on Thursday and released on bail to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court.

The man and woman appearing in court today were arrested on Wednesday and charged yesterday afternoon.

Mrs Pithie, who leaves a husband Christian also 32, and a 13-year-old daughter Coral and son, Jordan, was believed to have died from the effects of smoke inhalation following the fire at the sauna where it is believed she had worked as a receptionist.

Police led by Det Supt Bill Shackleton launched a major inquiry when the body of Mrs Pithie of Cardinal Grove, Beeston, Leeds, was recovered from the attic of the sauna.

It is believed that Mrs Pithie had decided to stay overnight instead of making the journey to her home on the far side of Leeds after the sauna had closed. Relatives and shocked mourners laid floral tribute at the scene of the fire.

In the past Mrs Pithie had worked for the RSPCA and the mental health charity Mencap.
