Thousands watch England rugby union team in Leeds
THOUSANDS of rugby club members and school children flocked to see the England rugby union team train in Leeds.
England head coach Stuart Lancaster’s new-look side were at the University of Leeds’ Weetwood playing fields, off the Ring Road, in Weetwood.
The Rugby Football Union offered every rugby club and secondary school in Yorkshire 10 free tickets to the event, bringing 2,500 smiling fans to the fields.
Lancaster, who got the likes of Morley’s Iraq war veteran Simon Brown to motivate the players, said: “It reminds the players about what it means to be an England player and that’s probably the most important thing for me, so for the players and coaches last night they’ll remember that forever and for the guys that have watched it today, they’ll remember it for a long time.”
It’s the first time they’ve trained in public in England, outside Twickenham, in around a decade.
