Grieving relatives of a popular takeaway owner have been left “distressed” after burglars ransacked his flat – less than a fortnight after his sudden death.

In the early hours of Sunday intruders broke into the property above pizza shop Amigos in Featherstone that was owned by Jesus Ferreno.

They stole several items, including his Vauxhall Vectra car, which they later unsuccessfully tried to torch nearby.

It comes less than two weeks after Mr Ferreno, 68, collapsed and died on the steps to the Station Lane property on January 29.

Police are now appealing for information.

A spokesman for Normanton and Featherstone Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Jesus was very well regarded in the local community and the long-established owner of Amigo’s Pizza, a popular local takeaway located on Station Lane, Featherstone.

“Understandably his family and friends are distressed that this crime occurred but particularly so soon after their sad and tragic loss. Police are today making an appeal for any person with information about this offence to come forward.”

Anyone with information should call the NPT on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
