SNOG, marry or avoid? That’s the crucial question that has been taxing the minds of two Leeds Met University graduates over the last few months –- and which has made them an internet sensation.
Will Peirce and Jonny Teeling have been taken aback by the positive reaction to their social networking site snog.com which they say is getting a million hits a day and 300,000 posts.
Set up just a few months ago, the site has already got six figure financial backing to help it develop after getting more hits in its first two hours than Facebook did when it launched.
Will and Jonny, both 22, who still live in Leeds, say that the younger generation have really taken snog.com to heart and love to use it as a means of meeting others.
Will said: “It’s a totally different way for teens to meet. This is about meeting people, all about finding someone new. It’s all about social discovery.”
Those taking part can either choose to ‘Snog, Marry or Avoid’ other users and build up a network of online friends.
Will said: “We have only been live for seven months so to grow that quickly is a bit of a surprise. We have played with people’s egos in a way. People are intrigued to know what other people think about them.”
The average age of site users is 17 but anyone aged 13 onwards can sign up, with most of the users currently from the UK.
Will, from Uppingham, and Jonny, from Sunthorpe, are thinking big, thanks to the backing of Reinvent Inc, headed by businessman Kevin Ham.
Will added: “We have taken a six figure investment from a company in Canada. That was just a month after we started.”
