The Courtyard Comedy Club returns to West Yorkshire Playhouse tomorrow night, featuring Australian comic Brendon Burns.

Burns has been performing comedy since the early 1990s and is known for his aggressive stage presence and controversial material.

He briefly hosted the ITV2 spin-off show I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here Now! before walking off after just three shows.

Loud, brash, rude, in your face – and very funny, are some of the ways he is described.

He is supported by Danny Buckler.

West Yorkshire Playhouse, tel: 0113 213 7700, info@wyp.org.uk, tickets 10.

The Other Family

Joanna Trollope

Doubleday 18.99

Chrissie always believed that Richie loved her, had loved her for all the 23 years they'd been together, loved their three daughters and their house in Highgate and their happy, lively existence. But if she really was the love of his life, why had he never given her the

one thing that would have made her life perfect?

The ring she wore was not a wedding ring, and it did not bring her the security of marriage. That belonged, still, to Margaret, back in Newcastle where Richie had started off as a musician, before he became famous. Margaret and her son Scott never saw Richie, and had never met the three girls. They were his other family, not mentioned but always in Chrissie's mind, an obstacle to her complete happiness.

And then, suddenly and shockingly, Richie is no longer there, and Chrissie and the girls have to learn to manage without him. The presence of the other family becomes, all at once, impossible to ignore – not least because they are involved in Richie's will. Old resentments, and feelings of abandonment and loss, have to jostle with the practicalities of money and property.

The Brit Awards 2010 (Rhio)

This month sees the Brit Awards staged for the 30th time – and to mark the occasion Rhino has compiled this triple album.

Featuring past winners such as Robbie Williams, Paul McCartney and Oasis, plus a wealth of nominees for this year's awards, it's a fascinating snapshot of British music from the last three decades.

Fans of contemporary pop will be delighted with the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Calvin Harris and N-Dubz. The current generation of young female talent is represented by Lily Allen, Cheryl Cole, Little Boots, Pixie Lott and Florence and the Machine. There's also a song from Ellie Goulding winner of the Brits 2010 Critics' Choice Award.

Older fans will relish tracks from U2, Prince and The Cure; there are also live Brit performances from Queen, Seal Adamski and the Bees Gees.

This year's ceremony will be aired on ITV1 on February 16.

The Yorkshire Evening Post has three copies of the album to win in a competition.

To enter, simply answer the following question: Who won the Brits 2010 Critics' Choice Award?

Send your entry on a postcard, with your name and address, to: Brit Awards competition, Features Dept, Yorkshire Evening Post, Wellington Street, Leeds LS1 1RF.

The closing date for entries is Thursday, February 11. The first three correct entries drawn at random will each win a CD. Usual YPN rules apply.

Nest building

According to all the glossy fashion mags, clogs are the must-have for 2010 and for the interiors world it's all about rustic Scandinavian too.

To get this look, use light wood pieces like the Tegan Gun Barrell occasional table from Barker and Stonehouse and combine with a sofa in a calming shade of powder blue.

This look works well with either hardwood flooring or a great natural carpet.

Get fit

A lot of gym bunnies still cannot grasp the sets and reps rules. It's quite simple.

If you want to improve your strength and burn fat, aim to lift heavy weights and keep your reps below 15.

If you are just starting out, you may try a lighter weight although the real fat loss benefits will only come from lifting heavy weights as often as you can. Always remember to do as many as you physically can. If you did 12 when you could have managed 15, then that will have little benefit to your guns.
