BATMAN, Robin and Supergirl will take a break from crime fighting to become fundraising heroes at Leeds Midnight Walk in memory of their friend’s husbands who died at aged just 34 .
Robin, aka Sarah Holmes, and eight friends will join more than 1,000 women at the midnight walk on Saturday, May 17, to raise money for St Gemma’s Hospice. Sarah’s brother-in-law James Butterworth died from lung cancer in 2011, shortly after he, his wife, and two sons emigrated to New York.
Sarah, from Crossgates said: “It was always James’s dream to work in New York but not long after they left he was diagnosed with and treated for lung cancer. He died nine weeks after his diagnosis, in February 2011. It was a terrible shock for us all.
“Taking part in the Leeds Midnight Walk feels like a great opportunity to raise funds for a fantastic local charity, whilst having fun with my friends.”
The Leeds Midnight Walk is in its eight year and has raised £700,000 for St Gemma’s since it began.
Event organiser Becky Hole said: “Every walker has a reason for taking part, from getting fit, to having fun to raising money in memory of loved ones, like our superheroes. Every penny they raise will make a difference to the thousands of people St Gemma’s cares for each year.”
