Do you know a real hero health worker?

If so, here’s a chance to get them the recognition they deserve.

Today the Yorkshire Evening Post launches the Best of Health awards.

These will honour people working in the health field in Leeds and Wakefield who go above and beyond the call of duty in looking after others.

We are looking for the superstars who deserve to be publicly recognised for the work that they do.

The Best of Health awards, sponsored by Sovereign Health Care, gives readers the chance to do just that. We are looking for nominations in 10 categories, including for top doctors, nurses and midwives.

We will also be recognising amazing opticians, fabulous dentists and fantastic physical therapists – physiotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths.

As well as that, we are looking for carers, unsung heroes and teams of health workers.

Nominations in all categories are invited now.

After the closing date of October 4, the judging panel will draw up a shortlist for each category.

All the shortlisted nominees will be invited to a glitzy awards lunch on October 29, when the winners will be announced. One of the lucky category winners, who has demonstrated exemplary care, will also be given the Overall Judge’s Award.

Brian Nuttney, deputy editor of the Yorkshire Evening Post, said: “We are delighted to give hardworking health staff the praise they deserve through the Best of Health Awards.

“We hope all our readers will send in their nominations now to help us honour some real superstars.”

Russ Piper, chief executive of health cash plan provider Sovereign Health Care said: “Sovereign Health Care, is proud to support the Best of Health Awards 2012.

“As a West Yorkshire organisation, established almost 140 years ago, with the aim of helping people to manage the costs of their everyday healthcare, it is a natural fit for us to support these awards.

“Over the long history of Sovereign Health Care there have been many changes to the way that everyday health care treatments are provided.

“However, one thing that hasn’t changed is the skill and dedication of the health care professionals in West Yorkshire who have always worked tirelessly to look after our wellbeing.

“Sovereign Health Care is delighted to be able to recognise their continued commitment to providing the very highest level of care and service especially in these challenging times.”
