Stars join in celebrations of exam results in Leeds

Waiting for Video...

Pop stars and sporting champions have given the thumbs up to thousands of students in Leeds for their exam results.

The city’s very own golden girl Nicola Adams, triathlete champions Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee and girlband Neon Jungle are just some of the stars congratulating the efforts of students across the city who are collecting their GCSE results today.

Popstars Scouting for Girls and Blue have joined Sir Chris Hoy and gymnast and Tumble star Louis Smith in the special video to celebrate the achievements of young people who have already collected their A-Level results.

The online clip, which supports the city’s Child Friendly Leeds campaign, comes just as giant banners have been unfurled around the city centre to celebrate the efforts of students and young people.

Former Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton praised the efforts of youngsters in the short clip and said: “Don’t worry about the results, I am sure you did your best.

“You have earned these results and go and celebrate.”

Football pundit Robbie Savage also joined in the celebrations and congratulated students who have received their A-Level and GCSE results.

Councillor Judith Blake, executive member for children’s services, added: “Everyone who has taken their exams this year deserves to be congratulated for their efforts and achievements.

“This video is just a little way we can say ‘well done’ and give the young people some recognition for their hard work.

“Whatever their individual results, it is important to remember that there are always more options and information available to help the young people make the best choice for their future.

“Hopefully these exams are just one step on a long and successful road for the young people of Leeds.”
