Community groups across Leeds are being offered the chance to grab their share of an amazing £100,000 to help them transform the lives of people across the city.

Your YEP has once again teamed up with Comic Relief and the Community Foundation for Leeds to offer cash-strapped organisations the opportunity to apply for a fantastic Sport Relief Community Cash Grant.

And this year there is double the amount of money available, meaning there’s even more chance to land a grant that could help fund the vital work done in communities around the city.

Yorkshire Evening Post editor Paul Napier said: “We’re thrilled to be teaming up with Comic Relief and the Community Foundation for Leeds once again to give some of the fantastic community groups across the city a chance to get hold of some much-needed funding.

“This year’s giveaway will be bigger than ever before and with twice as much money to give away, we will be able to help even more groups keep up the important work they do.”

Grants of between £500 and £1,000 are available to small groups working in deprived areas of Leeds to make a difference to their communities.

Groups who are applying need to have a turnover of less than £100,000 and be run by local people.

Some examples of groups could include community festivals, parent and toddler groups or lunch clubs.

Sue Wicks, UK Grants Manager for Comic Relief, told the YEP: “Comic Relief is delighted to be working with the Yorkshire Evening Post and offering Sport Relief Community Cash for the second time to local groups in Leeds.

“We funded some truly fantastic projects in the city last time, so we’ve doubled the pot to £100,000 and hope this will encourage even more new groups to apply for a grant.

“Thanks to the hard work of these groups, money raised through Sport Relief can get right to the heart of the local community and make a real difference where it is most needed.

“I urge as many groups as possible to get their applications in now for their chance to get a grant from the £100,000 on offer.”

Groups need to get their applications submitted before March 9.

Sally-Anne Greenfield, chief executive of Leeds Community Foundation said: “We are absolutely delighted that Comic Relief has chosen to double the amount of money available to give out in grants to local community projects in Leeds from £50,000 last year to £100,000 this year.

This means that we will be able to help twice as many groups and we expect to be giving out over 100 grants of between £500 and £1,000 to very worthy, local community projects all over the city.

“We know this money will have a really positive impact in the heart of local communities so please do start submitting your applications as soon as possible.”

Groups wanting to apply for a grant can visit www.leedscommunity

YEP readers can do their bit for Sport Relief and keep raising money to help people across the UK and world’s poorest countries by taking part in Leeds’ Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile.

The popular event takes place on Sunday, March 25. Fundraisers are being urged to enter now at: www.sportrelief.com
