Pupils, parents, volunteers and councillors have teamed up to tackle speeding drivers in Middleton and Belle Isle.
The ‘Kill Your Speed’ campaign set up by members of the Aberfield and Newhalls Residents Association, comes after members expressed concern at drivers speeding on Newhall Road, New Forest Village and Middleton Town Street mostly during rush hour times.
As a result residents have been out on the streets with posters and flyers and working with councillors, highways staff and police to encourage more enforcement of local speed limits.
Geoff Byers, campaign organiser, said: “We hope to make people aware of the consequences of speeding and make the area a safer place for everyone.”
Residents are especially worried about the problem during school holidays, when more people are at risk.
Coun Kim Groves (Lab, Middleton Park) added: “I am proud to support these efforts to reduce speeding in Middleton and Belle Isle.”
