Slideshow: Santa arrives in Cross Gates

Hundreds of people turned for the opening of Santa's Grotto at Crossgates Shopping Centre. Watch picture slideshow here.

For the special occasion, Santa was joined by a host of his friends from Lapland including Percy the Penguin, teddy-bears Pip and Pop, Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Reindeer for the official opening of his magnificent Grotto, where he will be situated from now right up to Christmas Eve.

After processing through the malls, Santa headed straight to his Grotto, where his very first guest of the season was a little girl named Hetty, grand-daughter of Francesca Davis from St Gemma's Hospice, the nominated cancer hospice charity to which all proceeds from the day were contributed.

In addition to Santa's arrival, festive fun for all the family across the day included magic and circus show entertainment from children's favourite Mike Hancock and the snow-dust sprinkling, shimmering Christmas fairy. Stilt-walking clown Mad Dom was also on hand, keeping crowds transfixed with tricks, jokes and juggling,

"We're delighted once again to be able to host Santa's Grotto in the Centre this year," says Crossgates Shopping Centre Manager Steve Seymour.

"The turnout has been terrific and we'd especially like to thank all those who have contributed towards our nominated charity, St Gemma's. Thank you to everyone for their support!"

Santa's Grotto will be open at Crossgates Shopping Centre every Friday, Saturday and Sunday between now and Christmas, as well as every day from December 18 to December 22.

All those who visit him will receive a photo with Santa himself, as

well as a special gift, all the way from Lapland. Definitely worth the trip!

To make Christmas shopping even easier, Crossgates Shopping Centre will also open late from Sunday, December 17 through to Friday, December 22 until 7pm, offering free parking in the on-site car park after 5:30pm.
