Slideshow: Raiders ram JCB into Crossgates post office while staff are still inside
Brazen criminals rammed a JCB into Crossgates post office while workers were still inside the building- but still fled empty-handed.
The digger was driven into the side of Crossgates post office in Austhorpe Road at just before 6pm last night.
The building lies in the centre of the bustling high street and there were many businesses still open at the time of the raid.
Eyewitnesses described seeing a man get out of the digger and walk into the post office. But seconds later he emerged empty handed and drove off with an accomplice.
Police are now hunting the two men who are believed to have got away in a small red car and headed towards Seacroft Way.
Onlookers said there had still been people in the building at the time of the raid.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said no one had been injured and nothing was believed to have been taken.
Eyewitness Judy Duncan said: "I saw a man get out of the JCB and walk into the shop. It was a stupid time to do it."
