Stallholders and the crowds also enjoyed the unexpected weather.
Indeed the market could not have had better conditions for the start of British Food Fortnight, traders, stalls and even the clock tower itself were dressed up for the event which celebrated the diverse and delightful products on offer from the region.
Mike Tattersall, spokesman for the market, said: "Both young and old visitors enjoyed the atmosphere created by the day's celebration and this was added to by the ladies selling products for Church View Farm Eggs and Straws Bakery with their efforts to get into the spirit of the celebration with their outfits.
"We are sure this can become an annual fixture in our calendar and would like to thank all those folk that came down and made the day and our shopping experience such an enjoyable one.
"It is occasions like this when you realise how much fun shopping can be at markets like this."
The celebrations are due to continue on Saturday October 18, when the market will be celebrating National Apple Day.
