SLIDESHOW: Great gay event is Pride of Leeds

Giant 7ft stilettos, a gaggle of transgender superheroes and more dancing queens than you can shake a feather boa at!

The third Leeds Pride festival brought the heart of the city to rainbow-coloured life yesterday – with hundreds of people of all backgrounds flocking to Millennium Square and Briggate to savour the fun.

The massive celebration of all things gay kicked off in MiIlenium Square at midday with a host of musical talent on the main stage, including The Shirley Bassey Experience and Leeds' own Gay Abandon choir.

A glittering carnival parade then sashayed its way to Briggate, in the heart of Leeds' gay quarter, where the revelry continued with a funfair, a champagne tent and more than 60 stalls and venues offering everything from rainbow-coloured dog collars to high tea.

Yesterday's event was the third annual Leeds Pride, and delighted organisers say it has already become the largest and friendliest event of its kind in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

David Mattison, who dressed up as Supergirl alongside brother Paul as Wonderwoman, said: "It's been really good. We just loved the parade."
