Hundreds of picture perfect entries to our Tour de France photography competition have been whittled down to a shortlist of just 15 photos.

An expert panel of judges has painstakingly worked through more than 200 images captured by some of the millions of cheering fans who witnessed the once-in-a-lifetime visit of Le Tour in person.

One entry from each of the three categories of the Yorkshire Evening Post and Sky’s amateur photography competition will bag themselves a signed Team Sky jersey, a canvas print of their image and a Sony SLT-A58K digital SLT camera, memory card and case.

The winners in the Best Landmark Shot, Best Cycling Team Shot and Best Team Sky Picture categories will be announced in the YEP on Friday.

Richard Flint, managing director of Sky in Leeds, said: “It was really tough to whittle the entries down into the five shortlisted images in each category, as all the shots were fantastic. However, the ones that have made it into the shortlist have been chosen as they capture beautifully everything about the Grand Depart in Yorkshire, from the excitement and anticipation at the start of the race to the crowds cheering on the riders along the route.”

Sky has three offices in Leeds employing around 1,250 people. The firm supports cycling nationally from its Team Sky icons such as Chris Froome and Sir Bradley Wiggins to its mass participation traffic-free Sky Rides.

Nicola Furbisher, managing editor of the YEP, said: “The hundreds of fantastic entries that we’ve had have really captured the buzz of the Tour and the festival feeling it created.

“We’d like to thank all that entered and wish our finalists the best of luck.”
