Shock at Leeds policewoman death
Colleagues and friends have been shocked by the sudden death of a “dedicated” police officer at her home in Leeds.
PC Claire Johnson was discovered collapsed at her home in Kippax at the weekend.
Her death is not being treated as suspicious and a file has been sent to the coroner, with an inquest expected to be opened soon.
The 40-year-old officer, who had a young son, is believed to have been discovered at her home when her father called at the address on Saturday morning.
Officers at the North East Leeds division have paid tribute to PC Johnson, whose cause of death was not immediately known.
Chief Inspector Mick Hunter, of the North East Leeds division, said: “Claire’s death has come as a complete shock to everyone at the division and our thoughts are very much with her family at this difficult time. Claire was a dedicated and committed police officer and her colleagues described her as a warm and friendly person who was always a big part of the team. She will be very sorely missed by everyone at North East Leeds division.”
Ms Johnson is survived by her parents and young son.
She joined West Yorkshire Police in July 1995, and originally served at Millgarth police station before moving to Killingbeck police station in 2003.
There, she served as divisional training officer, on response duties and most recently in the division’s contact management unit.
