This was the dramatic scene in a Leeds village after a car ploughed into the front garden wall of a house, also destroying a roadside metal barrier.
The accident happened at 4.50am on Saturday in Town Street, Rodley, following a police chase.
The young family sleeping inside were awoken by the crash, but were unhurt.
The homeowner, a young mum who asked not to be named, told the YEP: “The house shook and we heard an almighty bang. Thank heavens the wall was there, or it would have gone into the house.”
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police were alerted to a burglary in progress at a house in Yewdall Road, Rodley. When officers went to the scene a silver Saab car drove off before crashing a short time later into a wall on Town Street, Rodley. The Saab was found to have been stolen from Holt Park.”
* A 28-year-old man has been charged with burglary, aggravated vehicle taking and driving offences.
