'She was the one who wanted to have sex' - Defendant's claim to rape trial jury

A WOMAN who claimed she was raped by a stranger she met through a backpackers' website wanted sex, a jury heard.

Abdelali Nachet, 34, said the woman, from Hong Kong, made advances towards him, including touching and kissing him, while she was staying at his house on Cranmer Bank, Moortown, Leeds.

The 27-year-old contacted Moroccan-born Nachet through a website which puts travellers in touch with people offering free accommodation.

The woman, who stayed with Nachet in March, later claimed she was raped twice and sexually assaulted in an ordeal which lasted throughout the night.

But giving evidence, Nachet told the jury at Leeds Crown Court that the woman had made advances towards him after they danced together, touching him and performing a sex act on him. He said: "She said I smelled nice, then she kissed me and started flirting. She got close to me and I got close to her."

When he was asked how she reacted, he replied: "She loved it. She liked to have sex with me."

The court also heard transcripts from Nachet's police interviews, in which he said: "She was the one who wanted to have sex with me. She wanted a lot of sex. She loved everything.

"What we made together was not rape, it was love. It was enjoyable, like passion; touching, kissing, hugging, smiling."

Earlier in the evening, Nachet said the pair had discussed marriage to allow the woman to stay in England, and told the court he spoke to her about his self-harming habit.

The part-time chef said he was depressed about money problems, which led to his girlfriend and daughter moving out of his house one week before the woman arrived.

The woman later claimed that Nachet had threatened to kill her and then kill himself if she tried to escape, and said she complied because she had seen the self-harming scabs.

She also said that Nachet ran her a bath the next morning because he wanted to get rid of evidence, but Nachet said she voluntarily climbed into the bath with him and gave him a massage.

The woman left his home after they went for a walk in Alwoodley Park, during which they argued over money.

The same night, two women and a man who also used the website stayed at his house, with one of the wmen later claiming he danced with her and tried to touch her breasts.

But Nachet told the jury that she was giving him signals through her "body language" and spent time lying with him on the sofa, massaging his arms and back.

Nachet denies two counts of rape and one of sexual assault.
