Serial arsonist targets Wakefield cars
A SERIAL arsonist has been destroying cars in Lupset.
Police say all of the arsons are linked and are hunting the culprits in the local area.
The first happened in Aysgarth Drive in the early hours of Sunday June 7. Witnesses described seeing a man walk past a black Fiat Punto parked outside a house and throw what was believed to be petrol on the bonnet.
He set it alight then walked towards Broadway. The car was destroyed.
The second fire was on Broadway, on June 27 at around midnight.
A Fiat Punto was parked on a drive where it was set alight.
Police say they believe petrol was thrown onto or into the vehicle. The car was destroyed as well as a fence and the rear end of a camper van.
There were no witnesses to this incident and no-one was injured.
The third fire was on Townley Road, on June 30 at around 11.30pm when a Vauxhall Astra parked on the street was set on fire.
Again it is believed that petrol was thrown on or in the car. The vehicle was destroyed. No one was injured and there were no witnesses.
PC Toni Darroch, of Wakefield Police, said: "We are linking all three incidents and believe that those responsible live in the area where the crimes took place.
"If anyone has any information that could help us please get in touch."
