Entries are starting to come in for the Yorkshire Evening Post Best of Health Awards 2013 – but there’s still plenty of time to put forward your health hero.
Earlier this week we launched the awards designed to recognise superstar health workers.
After the huge success of the initiative last year, we are again looking to honour those who make a huge difference to the lives of their patients or clients.
Brian Nuttney, deputy editor of the Yorkshire Evening Post, said: “We know there are thousands of our readers who feel enormous gratitude to health workers who have cared for them in hospital, through their GP surgery or in their own homes.
“These awards provide the opportunity to put forward these deserving people for public praise and recognition.
“It may be that a member of staff went out of their way to give extra special care, or they might have offered years of support.
“Whatever the story, we want to hear why your health hero should win one of our awards.”
Nominations can be made in nine categories including for top doctors, nurses and midwives.
We will also be recognising amazing opticians, fabulous dentists, compassionate carers and fantastic pharmacists.
Those working in the health field in a supporting or non-clinical role aren’t forgotten either – they can be put forward in the Unsung Hero category.
And nor are teams of staff members, who all play a vital part in providing first-class care. The Team of the Year category will recognise them.
Patient Beryl Radford, who is making a nomination, said she thought the awards were “great”.
“They’re a real motivator. There are so many people doing brilliant things and they don’t often get recognised,” she added.
West Yorkshire health cash plan firm Sovereign Health Care is again the overall sponsor of the awards.
The company’s chief executive Russ Piper sat on last year’s judging panel and said they were keen to continue their support. “We feel that it is important to acknowledge and appreciate the hard work of the region’s health care professionals,” he said.
Winners will be announced on October 21.
