Online board game lovers gathered outside ITV Yorkshire in protest at changes to the Facebook-based Scrabble app.
Half a dozen people from the ‘Bring Back the Scrabble We Love’ campaign group played the board game and brought a banner urging games firm Mattel to reverse the changes to Leeds.
After six years Mattel switched the providers of Facebook Scrabble from Gamehouse to Electronic Arts in May, warning that users may experience some adjustments.
Careworker Gillian Womack, 52, has played the Scrabble app for three years and claims the changes have made it “unrecognisable”.
The Wakefield resident said: “The new game has wiped out the community, I don’t understand it, it’s confusing.”
She said the amendments made to the game have left users losing touch with friends they made through playing the game online.
Mattel, which has its UK base in Maidenhead, told the BBC earlier this year that it was sorry it wasn’t able to please everybody.
