Scary Guy comes to life for W Yorks teenagers

HIS very appearance ensures your undivided attention when he's talking.

So The Scary Guy, a 6ft tattooed life coach, had no trouble getting his message across to teenagers in West Yorkshire .

The US-based motivational speaker campaigns worldwide to eliminate hate, violence, prejudice and bullying in schools and corporations.

A former tattoo shop owner, he changed his name from Earl Kenneth Kaufmann in 1998 before setting out on his mission after his appearance made him a target.

He says his shocking image – he has tattoos over 85 per cent of his body – helps to get across the message that what is on the inside is most important.

The Scary Guy was at Wakefield College earlier this week talking to 160 students aged 16 to 18 from the Wakefield Entry to Employment (E2E) programme, telling of his own experiences and running workshops.

Stories

He said: "The power to create world peace lives in each and every one of us. I consider stories to be a powerful process through which man communicates and shares his ideas, vision and reality. Today, I 'read' life stories in the faces, words and actions of every person I meet."

E2E is a national work-based learning programme, primarily for young people aged 16-19 who are not yet ready or able to enter an apprenticeship, further education or employment.

E2E manager Maureen Green said, "Scary Guy delivered a very powerful message and really got the students thinking about how they live their lives ."

As part of Enterprise Week this month, E2E learners will produce anti-prejudice, hate and violence posters with slogans. The best posters will be used to produce a 2009 calendar sponsored by employers who provide work experience for the learners.
