Yorkshire Water is installing a new underground storage tank at playing fields near Fearnville Place in Roundhay. During a storm, rain water will be retained in the tank before being pumped away into the area's sewerage system for treatment.

Project manager Kevin Smith said: "Unfortunately, we can never offer cast-iron guarantees that no homes in the area will ever flood again as there are things beyond our control which sometimes contribute.

"However what we can say with confidence is that installing the new tank should dramatically reduce the risk of more flooding and allow locals to rest a little easier in their beds when it rains this winter."

The project is expected to take about five weeks to complete.
