The revamped event, which was free, also had a fresh site in the park.

Instead of Soldiers' Field, where it has been since its 1996 launch, yesterday it was next to the park's central arena.

The headline act for the six hour event was the band, Raghav. Others in the line-up included Jassi Sidhu, Saqi, Gubi, Revive, SK1 and The Entertainer.

There were also stalls selling Asian jewellery, food, music and clothing, as well as entertainment for children. Food outlets from Leeds, Bradford, Birmingham and Manchester were run alongside the Sukho Thai restaurant.

Last year a lack of sponsors and a shortage of interest from traders led to the event being shelved.

This year's event was organised by a new festival committee under the chairmanship of Ashwain Rayt.
