His mango Kulfi ice cream secured the award at the Great Taste Awards 2009 which is run by the Guild of Fine Food.
Mike said: "It's amazing that this small company from Roundhay has had a product that has been independently recognised as being worthy of a gold award by judges who are esteemed chefs, food writers and buyers in the industry."
After working for 15 years in the food industry, Mike took a career break to look after his two children.
He said: "During this time I sampled lots of the kids' ice cream and knew I had a better tasting product at home made from an original family Kulfi recipe produced by my father-in-law."
Oakwood Farmers' Market runs every third Saturday of the month, from 9am to 12.30pm at Oakwood Clock, Roundhay.
