Pete has lectured in Old Testament languages at Cambridge, and New Testament at Aberdeen, and now heads up the research institute at Tyndale House, Cambridge. He was extremely well qualified to look at the bible manuscripts and related matters.
There were three main talks with plenty of opportunity for questions.
First Pete showed that the Old Testament was totally trustworthy, with history and teaching that stood up to examination. The God of the Old Testament has often been made out to be harsh, but a deeper examination of exactly what is said in what context shows him to be loving and fair.
Coming on to the New Testament Pete discussed the so called other gospels and epistles, showing that the Bible books stand up to investigation, and their claim to be the word of God is entirely reasonable.
He then looked at the Bible in today's world, shwoing its authoritative and defensible message for the 21st century.
