Roundhay: Cannabis factory discovered

A cannabis factory has been uncovered by officers in Roundhay.

On Thursday, December 3, police raided an address on Lincombe Drive in the Brackenwood area of Roundhay and discovered cannabis growing equipment.

A 35 year old man was arrested and has subsequently been charged with the production and possession of a controlled drug and abstraction of electricity.

Action was taken in response to information given to police by a member of the public.

Inspector Andrew Briggs said: "We are dedicated to acting on people's concerns and this latest seizure is an example of what can be done if residents let us know what is happening in their neighbourhood.

"Cannabis factories can emit a strong and unusual smell and neighbours may hear noises whilst a factory is being set up. They may also see people coming and going with bags and other equipment such as powerful lights.

"It is likely curtains will be kept closed, but bright lights may appear to be left on around the clock. Residents living in the street are again likely to see various comings and goings.

"I would also particularly like to appeal to landlords to be aware of what to look for. If the tenant always pays in cash and does not allow you access to the property then let us check it out."

Anyone suspecting a cannabis factory has been set up in their community should contact their local neighbourhood policing team via: 0845 60 60 606.
