A RAILWAY station conductor was headbutted by a passenger who refused to pay his fare.

British Transport Police (BTP) are now appealing for witnesses to the attack at Normanton railway station.

Investigating officer PC Daniel Worthington said: “A male travelling on the 2.50pm Wakefield Kirkgate to Normanton service refused to purchase a ticket when challenged by the conductor, a 28-year-old male.

“A verbal altercation ensued and, following the arrival of the service at Normanton, the male is then alleged to have left the train and headbutted the conductor on the platform.”

The incident happened on Monday, September 3.

A 32-year-old man from Normanton, was arrested following the incident before being bailed pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information should contact BTP on Freefone 0800 405040, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
