Queen to visit Leeds on Diamond Jubilee tour
The Queen is to come to Leeds this summer as part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
And her visit is sure to shine all the more brightly for the people of Leeds as the city is the only Yorkshire destination featured on her national tour marking her 60 years on the throne.
Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh will stop off in God’s Own Country on either July 18 or July 19, according to the packed itinerary published on The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee official website.
It states: “These visits will give Her Majesty the opportunity to express her thanks to people throughout the country for their continued support and loyalty.”

The last time she came to Leeds was in 2002 to mark her Golden Jubilee.
Councillor Reverend Alan Taylor, Lord Mayor of Leeds, said: “We are so excited that the Queen has chosen to visit our fantastic city, and can’t wait to show her everything Leeds has to offer.
“I’m sure she’ll be amazed at how the city has changed since she last visited 10 years ago.
“It will be a great honour to see the Queen during her Diamond Jubilee year.”
Leeds is, of course, home to Morley - labelled the country’s most patriotic town for its extensive St George’s day celebrations.
And its Jubilee plans are already well under way.
Mayor of Morley, Coun Judith Elliott, said: “I think the people of Leeds will be thrilled by the Royal visit.
“We know that the Queen can’t be everywhere so we’re very pleased she will be with us here in Leeds.”
The Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire Dr Ingrid Roscoe will launch the Diamond Jubilee year at Halifax Minster on Sunday. (February 12)
But the weekend of June 2 and 3 is the main focus for Jubilee events, with an extended bank holiday on June 4 and 5.
Scores of Jubilee street parties, parades and celebrations are set to take place across the region, including a children’s concert on May 30 organised by Dame Fanny Waterman and the Calverley and Farsley Diamond Jubilee Fun Run and walk on June 2.
Queen Victoria is the only other British monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee – in 1897.
