Pupils' peak performance in memory of Pudsey teenager

More than 100 Leeds teenagers tackled the Yorkshire Three Peaks, raising £9,000 in memory of a classmate who lost her battle against cancer.

The youngsters, mostly year-10 pupils at Crawshaw High School, Pudsey, with some students from nearby Priesthorpe, set out with the goal of walking 24.5 miles and taking in over 5,000 feet of climbing, to scale Whernside, Pen-y-ghent and Ingleborough.

They have named the challenge the Lauren Kisby Memorial Walk in honour of Crawshaw student Lauren, who died last year aged 14 after battling a bone tumour in her pelvis

Fifty-five youngsters managed to walk all three peaks, while the other 60 completed one or two, and a group of students with weight issues and medical conditions such as juvenile arthritis, also completed two peaks, walking a total of 14 miles.

Event organiser David Brady, outdoor pursuits co-ordinator at Crawshaw, said: "Quite simply the students have been amazing."
