Property tycoon Simon Morris bailed

PROPERTY magnate and former Leeds United director Simon Morris has been bailed after being arrested for alleged fraud and money laundering.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police's organised crime group had swooped on his luxury home in Leeds.

Seven other people were also arrested. Six people, including Morris, were later released on police bail.

Of the eight arrested, three men were from Leeds, three from Bradford and a man an a woman from Wolverhampton. Those bailed included four West Yorkshire men and the man and woman from the Midlands. Two men are still in police custody.

Police said that the eight had been detained for questioning as part of an investigation into alleged money laundering and conspiracy to defraud.

Two weeks ago the YEP reported that Mr Morris's multi-million pound property empire was lying in ruins after SRM Holdings based at Brewery Wharf, Leeds, called in the administrators with estimated debts of 50m.

Some 37 of Mr Morris's companies had been placed into administration.

Detectives were also yesterday at offices on Sheepscar Court where Morris's original business started out.

Five officerstook away computers, files and documents which were loaded into a van.Early yesterday officers armed with search warrants moved in on Mr Morris's home in Ling Lane, Scarcroft.

A neighbour described seeing scene of crime officers in blue protective suits entering and leaving the house just after 8am. Six police vehicles were parked outside the house.

Sniffer dogs were used to search the grounds and the interior of the house as well as the inside of a Range Rover in the drive.

Police have for some time also been investigating "serious threats" alleged to have been made against Mr Morris.

Investors have also been locked in a legal battle with the Leeds property tycoon for some time in which investors claim they had paid too much for properties bought from Mr Morris, a claim he denies.

Yesterday's raids were reportedly not connected to this matter.
