Poundbakery: £1 bakery opens first store in Leeds

Opening of the new Poundbakery on Kirkgate, Leeds.

A bargain pasty company has opened its first shop in Leeds city centre.

Poundbakery, which has employed more than 100 people in Yorkshire in just under a year, created another 14 jobs in the Leeds shop, in Kirkgate, as it opened yesterday. (Jan 15)

To celebrate the opening of the Leeds shop, two chefs on stilts juggled in the city centre, while the store gave away sweet treats and the brand’s mascot Mr Tasty welcomed customers.

Joint chief operating officer Mark James said: “We love seeing our customers smile when they pick up two fresh cream cakes for just £1.

“Even freshly made sandwiches are just a £1 so lunchtimes need never be expensive again and we’re confident that it is set to create quite a stir across Leeds and Yorkshire.”

The firm, which offers two pasties or pies for £1 among other offers, already has shops in Doncaster, Barnsley, Wakefield, Sheffield and Rotherham.
