Pontefract pub in teenage girl sting
BAR staff at a town centre pub in Pontefract have been slapped with a fine after serving booze to a 15-year-old girl in a police sting operation.
The illegal sale took place during an operation by the Pontefract and Knottingley Neighbourhood Policing Team.
Police recruited underage youngsters and took them to try an buy alcohol at five pubs.
Alcohol was sold to the youngsters at two out of the five premises.
Bar staff who served the teens were given 80 fixed penalty tickets and the licence holders were given an action plan by police which will now be closely monitored.
Inspector Richard Sullivan, of Pontefract and Knottingley Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "The selling of alcohol to people underage will not be tolerated and we will take firm action against those responsible for supplying it.
"Anti-social behaviour is one of the main consequences of underage drinking – we will continue to work with our partners to address these issues and target premises which do not adhere to the licensing laws.
"I would appeal to people to contact us with information about on and off licences selling alcohol to minors."
Anyone with information should contact Pontefract and Knottingley Neighbourhood Policing Team on 01977 601045.
