An elderly man found dead in a street in Leeds is thought to have fallen down an embankment.

Fred Hudson, 87, was discovered on Barwick Road in Cross Gates on Tuesday.

Investigations revealed he had suffered a serious head injury.

Police initially said they were not treating his death as suspicious, but this morning revealed a post mortem showed he had injuries that could have been caused by a collision with a car.

However, further enquiries and an examination of the scene showed he most likely died after a fall.

It is understood a witness saw Mr Hudson walking along high banking next to the road close to Smeaton Approach shortly before he died.
