POLICE are appealing for witnesses after robbers stole a taxi and hundreds of pounds in takings after threatening the driver with a knife.

The 37-year-old cabbie had picked up two men from Haslewood Drive in Burmantofts before taking them to Noster Grove in Beeston.

When they got there, one brandished a knife.

The driver jumped out of the Skoda Octavia taxi, which was then stolen. It was found abandoned on Normanton Grove in Beeston in the early hours of the following day.

The theives took the sat-nav, several hundred pounds in cash and two mobile phones.

Both were in their mid twenties or thirties. One was mixed race and about 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build and missing a tooth.

The other was white, around 5ft 8ins tall and heavily built.

Holbeck CID are appealing for information about the incident, which happened on December 29.

Contact Det Con Michael Wimbles at Holbeck CID via 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
