Playground opening is music to the ears

IT was child's play for pupils at West End Primary after a new outdoor sensory activity area was unveiled.

Youngsters attended a special assembly in the playground as local councillors Brian Cleasby and Chris Townsley officially opened the new play area.

There is a special playhouse and stage, which aims to extend children’s literacy skills through role play and drama, as well as a climbing wall and fragranced plants.

The Horsforth school has raised 28,000 to help create the new playground.

The North West Outer Area Committee boosted the total by adding an extra 9,000.

Headteacher Lorraine Wadkin said the school would be enhancing the facility by saving to buy special outdoor musical instruments.

She added: “Our children, as well as being very active, love to make music through play and lunch times not just in lessons.”
