Pawn shop staff alerted police to net pervert, 28

A pervert who downloaded vile movies of children being sexually abused was caught after he sold his laptops at a pawnbrokers.

Samuel Webley, 28, pretended to be disgusted after being confronted over the illegal images after staff contacted police.

Webley, of Hope Street, Wakefield, was jailed for 10 months yesterday after pleading guilty to 11 offences related to the possession of indecent images of children.

Jonathan Sharp, prosecuting, said the offences came to light in 2010 after Webley had relationship problems with his partner Samantha Moxon.

Webley had been living with Moxon but moved out of their home on October 8 after assaulting her.

Before that incident Webley had used her laptop to download illegal images.

Webley’s mother then bought him a new computer when he went to live with her and he continued to access child porn.

Webley moved back in to Miss Moxon’s home on November 29 and attempted to delete the material from the two laptops.

He then sold them for £50 each at a cash generator store but the material was discovered when staff were clearing the disk memory.

A total of 158 movies were discovered. The court heard 55 were at level four, the second most serious kind.

Mr Sharp said Webley has previous convictions for domestic violence.

Stephen Swan, mitigating, said Webley had only accessed the material over a period of a few weeks and has not attempted to distribute it to anyone else.

Jailing Webley, judge Guy Kearl QC said: “These movies showed the exploitation of young females.

“You did it for your own excitement and arousal.

“It was anything but that for those children.”
