Park path opens
The Friends of Roundhay Park have re-opened an old footpath running through the beautiful forested ravine.
Volunteers, who make improvements on the third Saturday in each month, are pictured entering the path close to the castle.
They have removed brushwood and leaf mould which was covering the path and parks staff will now mow around the entrance to keep it clear. They have had to root out a mass of Himalayan balsam.
Spokesman Jon Vogler said: "We have planted on both sides of the ravine beck - giant rhubarb, wild geraniums, lots of irises, and also hostas and a couple of conifers.
"On the margins of the beck we have planted more than 200 ferns. We took advice from an expert who told us which varieties would do well in the shade."
