THE CENTENARY Pavilion at Leeds United’s Elland Road stadium will be the venue for Disability Sport Yorkshire’s 21st annual awards dinner next month.
The Wakefield-based charity will be celebrating the achievements of people with disabilities across Yorkshire at the event on Friday September 12.
Paralympians Hannah Cockroft MBE and Danielle Brown MBE will be introducing the event.
It will be hosted by Disability Sport Yorkshire (DSY) president David Oxley CBE and vice president Sir Rodney Walker.
DSY chief executive Kevan Halliday-Brown said: “Through our work with the county sports partnerships, sports governing bodies and with schools, clubs and community groups, DSY has been able to promote, support and develop sustainable activity for people of all abilities.
“The annual awards dinner is an acknowledgement of the high achievement of so many, not just as successful athletes but also those who have worked hard to increase opportunities and participation by disabled people.”
Special guest speakers at this year’s event are Paralympians Elizabeth Wright and Kevan Baker OBE.
Elizabeth is a former Australian Paralympic swimmer who has won three medals at two Paralympic Games.
Kevan, who won two Paralympic bronze medals, held the disabled discus world record four times and was world champion on three occasions.
He is now chairman of WheelPower – the governing body for wheelchair sport – and is chief executive of SPINE, a Patient User Group for people with spinal cord injuries.
The event starts at 6.30pm on Friday September 12. Awards will be presented between 9pm and 10.30pm. Tickets, priced at £29.50, are available from Disability Sport Yorkshire on 01924 372382.
