Oxfam's bookfest opens in Leeds
OXFAM loves books and to prove it has planned its first ever book festival.
Oxfam Bookfest is a national two week event packed full of competitions, workshops and meetings that launches on Monday July 4.
Highlights at Oxfam Books in Headingley, Leeds, include a short story competition on Monday, July 13 at 6.30pm (2 entry); poetry reading evening on Wednesday, July 15 at 7pm; and a book signing with Leeds author Frances Brody on Friday, July 17 at 7pm.
Anyone interested in taking part in an event is asked to register in advance.
Viktor Orban, manager of Oxfam Books Headingley, said the charity was the biggest secondhand book seller in Europe.
"Buying secondhand books not only helps with recycling but supports the work of Oxfam and its international projects. The festival should also get more people reading."
