Oulton: Speed limit set to go back up
A new speed limit is to be introduced on Methley Road in Oulton after a review by council chiefs.
The road was recently converted from a national speed limit to a 30mph zone when new street lighting went up.
But now council chiefs have decided that 50mph is more appropriate.
Methley Road is relatively flat and straight and acts as a key link between Leeds and Pontefract. The new limit is likely to be in place by April.
Coun Stuart Andrew, lead member for transport, said:"It is important that we set speed limits that are appropriate for the type of road that people are travelling on. By pushing the speed limit back up we can ensure that traffic flow remains constant and that congestion is avoided. This will have a positive effect on our road network."
A Traffic Regulation Order will be introduced once the new limit has been advertised and no objections are received.
