BOYBAND One Direction are to open their first UK ‘pop up’ shop in the new Trinity Leeds shopping development.
The five-piece – whose hits include What Makes You Beautiful, Little Things and One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks) – hope the merchandise store, which will open for three weeks from March 23, will replicate the success of similar ventures in New York, Sydney, Toronto and Stockholm.
A spokesman for the band said: “With a floor space of over 5,000 square feet, 1D World Leeds promises to be the ultimate meeting place for all 1D fans in Yorkshire, the North West and beyond. The store will be open for three weeks only; during this time fans can expect exclusive competitions, offers and merch bundles – everything a fan of Louis, Niall, Liam, Zayn and Harry could want.”
The UK’s first pop up store – which was announced to the band’s 10m Twitter followers this morning – will feature merchandise ranging from T-shirts to posters, phone cases, caps, calendars and life-size cardboard stand-ups of band members.
Formed during the 2010 series of The X Factor, the band have become a global phenomenon in the past two years. Their debut single What Makes You Beautiful topped the UK charts and the boys - two of whom, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson hail from Yorkshire – have gone on to sell 30 million records worldwide.
Last month they received a ‘global success’ award the 2013 BRIT Awards and topped the charts with their Comic Relief single One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks).
