Oliver Hardaker: Teenage Leeds cricketer hits 329 not out

A teenage member of a Leeds-based cricket team is celebrating after hitting a score of 329 not out - one of the highest one-day totals ever recorded.

Oliver Hardaker, 18, smashed his way to the massive run tally as his Sunday league team Horsforth scored a huge 419-5 in 40 overs in an away fixture against rivals Upper Wharfedale, at Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales.

Mr Hardaker's 329 in 144 balls on Sunday even eclipses the highest totals in professional cricket.

Indian star Sachin Tendulkar holds the international record, with a 200 scored earlier this year, and the highest first class innings is 268, hit by Englishman Ali Brown for Surrey against Glamorgan in 2002.

After hitting 27 sixes and 28 fours, Mr Hardaker said: "It was the best day of my life."

He said his bat was "absolutely pinging the ball around".

Mr Hardaker, who is a student at Woodhouse Grove School, near Bradford, was playing for Leeds-based Horsforth in the third team Ian Chappell Cup.

He confirmed he has ambitions to play professional cricket.
