Oakwood Farmers' Market: October event celebrates National Apple Day
This month's Oakwood Farmers Market is celebrating National Apple Day by promoting the fruit through a wide range of products.
Organisers have benefited from of the advice of a local resident with years of experience at Harlow Carr Gardens and an expert in apple identification.
The event, takes place at Oakwood Clock at the junction of Roundhay Road and Princes Avenue on Saturday, October 18, from 9am to 12.30pm.

Oakwood Farmers' Market spokesman, Mike Tattersal, said: "Many people have apple trees in their gardens but don't know the variety of the apple. If you want to find the variety of your own apples bring along and our expert will help. Bring between 3–5 apples (leaves not needed) and he will name them.

"To delight the kids and adults we will have Toffee apples made by Cutting Cake from Oakwood. He also does tasty chocolates which will be apt as the market is also at the end of Chocolate week.
"If you would like to take home a treat for the family lunch Salts deli will be making Apple Tarte Tatin, Apple and Cinnamon Cake, Apple Frangipane Tart and Apple Strudel along with their usual fare.
He added: "Boococks are pork experts and pig farmers and will be producing a pork and apple pie to rival their best selling pork pies. Perfectly preserved shall be bringing crab apple jam along with special Oakwood apple chutney for you to sample and buy.
"We also have our local apple farmer from Yorkshire Orchards who supplies apples direct from the tree to you. He's back for his second appearance and this time he will have lots of different varieties for you.
"Whitley's who supply us with fresh vegetables from their plot in Pudsey will be bringing along a new season crop of pumpkins, so why not purchase them in readiness for Halloween later this month.
"All other stalls will be trading their popular products and getting into the spirit of the day, so come along and enjoy the warm shopping experience of your local Farmers Market, but remember to get to the market early as it is the early bird that gets the worm!"
