New park centre set to open soon
The new visitor and education centre at the Mansion in Roundhay Park is set to open in late summer.
The work is part of a 1.8m project, jointly funded by Leeds City Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund, which also includes improvements to the park, landscaped gardens and a new children's playground.
Local councillors visited the site recently with Coun John Procter, executive member for leisure, to see how work is progressing.
Coun Matthew Lobley (Cons, Roundhay) said: "When we consulted about what people wanted to see in the Mansion in 2005 the original proposals were transformed to reflect their wishes. Now it is great to see those plans coming to fruition."
Coun Procter added: "I am impressed with the way that work is going on the visitor centre. Once it is finished it will allow people to learn more about the Mansion and the park.
"The beauty of the building and its surroundings are enhanced when you appreciate the role that the Mansion has played in the history of the city."
